The Pencil - from 93.8FM A Slice Of Life

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.

"There are 5 things you need to know", he told the pencil, "before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and you will become the best pencil you can be?

ONE: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone’s hand.

TWO: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’ll need it to become a better pencil.

THREE: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.

FOUR: The most important part of you will always be what’s inside.

AND FIVE: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.

The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart. The parable of the pencil imparts great wisdom in the way we human beings live our lives as well.

Allow this parable on the pencil to encourage you to know that you are a special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which you were born to accomplish.

Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot make a change.

We are just like the pencil, who can make a difference in our lives and in the lives of the people around us. Don’t ever underestimate what you have the power to do!

My dental trip

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Today is Friday, 12th of October. RA is closed for today. Any plan for today, Erwin? Nope! Boring day….

Before I start drifting away with my complaints, I should start talking about my dental trip. Chin Yong, my colleague told me about the dental benefits that we as employees are entitled to few days ago. So, I decided to go down to the dentist near my block to "use up" my benefit entitlement for this year.

Chin Yong told me that his dentist is "very pretty, can?". Well, mine is pretty, too. [What in the world is happening!? Why be dentist??]. She is in her mid to late 20s. Tall and wear braces.

My dentist gave my teeth some polishing (cost $50), 2 fillings ($50 each) and some "concentrated fluoride" gel ($20). This amounts to $170 ($20 short of my entitlement).

Polishing was okay.
For Fillings, Dentist: "this is a little sensitive, okay?". Erwin thinking "urm, it hurts! well, not much lar…."

For Flouride gel, Dentist: "rinse ur mouth well and u need to wait 1 hour before u can brush ur teeth or eat anything. If there is any excess, u can either spit it out or swallow it." I was then sent out to wait. Feel very uncomfortable with the sweet gelly in my mouth…. Starts swallowing a little and feel more uncomfortable. Then, I walked over to the sink and spit it all out. What a waste of my $20…

But, well… at least I did something on my holiday. Though, it is not something fancy. What a boring long weekend.
